Portobello Bride Featured Wedding: Tienna & Jamie by Matthew Evans Photography

The wedding of Tienna and Jamie is a gorgeous mix of casual, coastal airiness and minimal, chic elegance, which is perfect for its Queensland setting at Palm Cove. The whole event was planned in less than six months!

Tienna fell in love with her dress, but it wasn't even being produced until a couple of months before the wedding, so due to the tight time-frame she bought the sample size and had it altered to fit with just a few weeks to go before the wedding! She's one brave Bride!

Tienna added a cream ribbon to her dress to personalise it. She knew from the start she wanted a bow around her waist!

The whole wedding was held at the Sea Temple Resort. Ceremony on the terrace, canapes by the pool and the reception was held in the restaurant - this meant no travelling from location to location on the day!

My girlfriends, who always manage to juggle motherhood, extremely demanding careers, time for their friends and most of all a wonderful attitude towards life.

Attention to detail, 110% effort and simple things like good manners.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Take it step by step. You don’t always have to have everything you dream of all at once. Grow your business and don’t rush!

What’s your favourite part of your job?
When we hear stories from brides after their wedding saying that their husband-to-be was dead against having a photo booth but then said afterwards it was the best decision they made for their wedding.

What are you reading at the moment?
‘Tangled’ the book with our six year old daughter.

What are you lusting after at the moment?
To be honest, nothing.  I just had a birthday and my family and friends know me well. I was very spoilt.

Top three songs on your play list?
Ummm am I allowed to say I don’t have a playlist?!  Our daughter is into Justine Clarke so listening to Justine in the car is about the extent of my musical repertoire at the moment.

What is your favourite moment during a wedding?
The dancing.

Who inspires you?
People that still make time for other people no matter how busy they get.

Midori Splice

What does it take to impress you?
Reliability, commitment and attention to detail.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Stop trying to do everything yourself.

Going to church and spending the day with my family.

Black tie.  I think it was better when people dressed every day in what we now refer to as ‘dressing up’.

Not very catchy or marketable but ‘Don’t do something you’ll regret’!

Calling beforehand and asking what they’ve forgotten that they need picked up from the shops on the way over!

What’s the best gift you have ever received?
Hand written notes from our two children. Our eight year old son wrote “say bye to the young times” on my 30th birthday card recently.  Nice huh!?

Wife. Mum. Tea-a-holic.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

It’s hard to narrow this down to just one aspect. Being involved in the planning and styling process as well as being there on the day means I’m lucky enough to be exposed to different styles and creative elements and also experience many beautiful moments throughout the wedding day.

 Throughout the planning process an obvious favourite is designing styling concepts that reflects each couple and is infused with their personalities. This means that every job is unique and for weddings more often than not involves collaborating with a florist which is always a favourite with me… I’m a huge floral lover! 

Something a little less “attractive” but which gives me great satisfaction comes in the final stages when I’m putting the final touches on the run sheet for the wedding day. After working on each wedding for what can be over 12 months it’s a great feeling to see all of the individual pieces fall into place to create one magnificent event for a couple I have become quite fond of.



What are you reading at the moment?
When it’s not the numerous wedding blogs I’m constantly scouring it’s actually En Francais. It may sound odd but I’m planning on jet setting to parts of Europe in the middle of next year so am polishing up my French.

What are you lusting after at the moment?
I think the question should be what aren’t I lusting after at the moment?! In terms of weddings, another exciting overseas challenge – any takers? Personally though I quite fancy Burt’s Bees Radiance Serum, Chloe Pleated silk-crepe dress (preferably to wear to my sister’s wedding), anything from Jo Malone and a beautiful day in the sun with my family.

What is your favourite moment during a wedding?

During a wedding my favourite moment is a little corny and clichéd but please stick with me… when the bride first steps into her groom’s line of sight the emotions that are expressed on his face are once-in-a-lifetime (except for possibly the look on a father’s face meeting his newborn for the first time). I’m not going to lie; it brings out the romantic in me!

 Later on in the evening, when the couple see their reception for the first time and their jaws hit the floor, that’s also priceless and gives me a great sense of achievement… another job well done.

This is usually after I’ve completed a wedding so the answer is never going to be glamorous… face-planting my pillow.

Bridal Soiree…maybe…anything is better than ‘Hens party’ right?

A beautiful scented candle

What’s the best gift you have ever received?
I’m not going to lie, I’ve been pretty spoilt for choice in this area but the most recent is my Kenneth Cole men’s watch I was given last Christmas. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after I’d unwrapped the box.

An eternal student.

Table Style File - Billy Buttons

Kristy from Imbue Weddings is the newest member of Portobello Bride. I am personally thrilled to have Kristy on board, and look forward to working with her in the new year.


As you can see from her latest style story she is one talented lady, and I love the simple beauty of this table setting. Using nothing but the sweet native, billy button and a navy trim for detail. The photography by ngg studios is simply amazing too. 


I thought this feature was appropriate considering my head is full of design details for our upcoming Autumn/Winter Boutique Wedding Market. This is perfect inspiration for an autumn wedding, it's casual, elegant and beautiful, every thing we love!

Portobello Bride Real Wedding - Amy & Dan

I thought this wedding was a perfect way to start the week. It's bright, happy and full of fun. 

I know I have written a lot on this feature, but I just LOVE it. I couldn't leave out any of this gorgeous couples wedding story.

Hailey Barthomlew of You can't be serious! the newest member of Portobello Bride's Boutique Wedding Guide  captured Amy and Dan's relaxed wedding with her signature style of creative and emotive imagery, in other words really awesome photography! 

Amy and Dan met whilst backpacking in London. They quickly knew the direction they wanted their life to go in. Welcoming their little boy Jack into the world in October 2008. It wasn't long after that Amy received a romantic "it's in the glove box proposal". Dan knew Amy would be on to him if there were any romantic plans made, so he thought by popping the ring in the glove box and asking "babe can you get the street directory out of the glove box" was the perfect solution. How cute is that?  

The couple decided to have some fun shots taken before the wedding, Hailey choosing an old dilapidated skate rink as the back drop. I love the colours and the props and of course Amy's stunning smile. How happy and relaxed they are! I love it. 

It was really important to Amy and Dan that their wedding suit their style perfectly, nothing formal with a feeling that any thing goes. How very 'Portobello Bride!'

They chose a relaxed venue in the Sassafras Cafe in Paddington, Brisbane. With its eclectic mix of furniture, nic knacks and warmth the old weatherboard cottage created the perfect setting.  Special handmade touches decorated the venue, from jam jars as candle holders tied with white grosgrain ribbons and a myriad of glass vases collected from various second hand stores were filled with white florals. The vases had tags woven through white satin ribbon with their names and wedding date on them. To keep the children amused through out the celebrations they were given their own gift bags filled with toys and crayons leaving the mums and dads to party on!

I think by far my favourite detail is how the ceremony took place. 

"We had a very relaxed "party" style  wedding so we were lucky enough to mingle with our guests before the ceremony, sharing nerves and laughs and of course a few drinks. When our song 'Sweet Disposition' by The Temper Trap came on Dan and I shared a secret look as no one else knew that this signaled the beginning of our life as a married couple. Our amazingly warm celebrant Justine Wells gathered our guests and they all looked on as we shared our personalised vows with each other. It was a short and sweet ceremony filled with lots of huge smiles and laughter leaving as much time as possible to spend with all our amazing friends and family." 

Amy and Dan decided not to have a bridal party as they wanted every one to have fun, and  be part of the party. The dress code was relaxed, as Amy put it, "after all the bride was wearing a white satin strapless mini dress!" 

From the moments captured by You can't be serious! it looks as though a fabulous night was had by all. As Amy wrote "We were able to have a day full of face splitting smiles and laughter because we chose a style of wedding which fitted us perfectly." What more could you ask for!

 

A photo booth was set up by You can't be serious! giving the guests an opportunity to pass on a message written on a blackboard which was then used in their photos. Amy and Dan loved this heartwarming touch, which personalised their wedding photos ensuring they have a photographic record of all the warmth ad laughter felt on the day.
