Applications now open for Melbourne & Sydney 2012

It is time to get organised for Portobello Bride 2012!

Please visit the website, and apply for:

Melbourne Autumn/Winter 26 & 27 May 2012, St Kilda Town Hall, St Kilda

Sydney Spring/Summer 18-19 August 2012, The Byron Kennedy Hall, Moore Park

Adelaide- we will announce the details for this event in October.

If you apply for both markets you will receive a multi booking discount of 15% off the total balance.

Keep in mind we are not running Portobello Bride as a State event, it is a National event, where many brides and industry will travel to attend. We would like to see as many interstate participants as possible. We unfortunately have not got the resources to be holding such an event in every state at this time. We will hold smaller events like we are in Adelaide, but The Boutique Wedding Market is at the moment only to be held in Melbourne & Sydney.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at kim@portobellobride.com.au

We have some more exciting news to announce next week, which we hope many of our members will be part of!

Flower crush on Cecilia Fox

On the odd occasion I have been known to have a bit of a girl crush on the likes of Zooey Deschanel, and lately Ms Gwyneth (Goop) Paltrow, but this crush isn't of the celebrity type, its more of an admiration for the unique style and creativity of Melbourne Floral designers, Cecilia Fox.

We were lucky enough to have Melanie from Cecilia Fox arrange our floral displays for Melbourne's Portobello Bride Market. A standout of the event, in beautiful hues of blues, greens and ivory in vintage esky's of all things!

If you haven't seen or heard of Cecilia Fox, take a moment to visit their website and if your planning a wedding in Melbourne and haven't booked a florist yet, make a time to meet Mel, you'll have a crush too once you see her work!

Sydney Postponed

We cannot believe we are saying this, and it is with our deepest apologies but we are postponing Sydney's market to 2012 after all.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have decided to postpone the market; as we will be unable to produce the event to the highest standard we expect and you deserve this August. We look forward to announcing our definite dates and plans for Sydney shortly.

All Sydney ticket holders will be refunded in full, and all stall holder applications have been contacted personally by email.

Since we received so many beautiful mood boards already for the style workshop we were running at the market, we will still be choosing a winning design and our favourite Sydney members will put together an inspiring photo shoot based on the winning moodboard.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you, it was never out intention. All we wish to do is bring to you the most beautiful, inspiring, productive wedding event imaginable, and we will do so in 2012.

Portobello Bride Sydney Is Back On

I know I only announced a fortnight ago that we had to cancel Sydney's market for 2011. Well, we just couldn't give up on it. We received so many heartfelt emails and comments from wedding suppliers and brides-to-be who were really looking forward to Sydney's event that we just had to keep trying to find an alternative venue. We honestly thought we had covered all options when I made the announcement that it wasn't going to be for 2011, but it seems we hadn't.

Some may say it was serendipitous, whatever it was, it was meant to be, I am absolutely in love with our new venue.

I am excited to announce we will be holding our Sydney Portobello Bride Spring Summer wedding market at Byron Kennedy Hall. We couldn't be happier, it's the perfect space for our vision for the Portobello Bride Spring Summer market, we will launch the campaign next week. You are going to love it!

If you are interested in participating please email kim@portobellobride.com.au , applications open Tuesday 7th June 2011.

Autumn/Winter Wedding Moodboard Table Display

As you may remember before the Boutique Wedding Market we held a competition asking for submissions of moodboards for an Autumn/Winter wedding which would be turned into a live display as part of the market.

We had some lovely submissions and the board by Olivia Russell was the winner. This is Olivia's moodboard:

Boutique Wedding Market Wrap Up by Sarah Gawthorne of Bride To Be

Portobello Bride was so privileged to have Bride To Be Magazine as one of our wonderful sponsors for last weekend's Boutique Wedding Market. Editor Sarah Gawthorne came along and spent time with brides and vendors throughout the market and is kindly sharing her experience of the weekend with us today:

When I first met with Kim Billing late last year to talk about a “little project” she was working on called the Portobello Bride Boutique Wedding Market, I was struck so much by her passion and vision for the concept she was working on. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of being in Melbourne to witness that concept come together. I’m not someone who is often left speechless, but…. WOW! This was no little project, this was a sight to be seen. And really, I cannot compare it to anything else in the wedding business, because there’s just nothing else like it. That’s what Kim wanted to achieve, and she did… For those of you that didn’t have a chance to see the market, I encourage you to check the beautiful images here on Portobello’s blog. They look gorgeous, and they barely do it justice.

Bride to Be magazine sponsored the market’s lounge - a place to come, sit down, chill out, read some of our magazines, and rest before the Bridal Salon show, or have a coffee from Ed Dixon Food Design. Because of this, I got a chance to talk to many brides (there were a lot of you there, which was fabulous to see) and wedding suppliers over the weekend. Most importantly for me, as a national magazine, getting down to Melbourne and being able to really get a feeling for both the local wedding businesses and all of the brides in their planning phase was invaluable.

Funnily enough, the F1 was happening in Melbourne the same weekend, and despite the fact I was staying in a hotel sponsoring one of the teams, it really seemed like a non-event in comparison to the buzz at St Kilda Town Hall.

I can honestly say, given that Kim hand-picked the stall holders, they really were all fabulous, but here are a few of my favourites:

Fenton and Fenton – stunning furniture, art and home pieces to put on your wish-list for guests.
Sweet! Cupcakes and Treats – their display had most beautiful multi-coloured meringues I have ever seen.
Prop.d – prop hire and wedding styling. These guys are very cool and obviously great at what they do.
Amaline Vitale – I fell in love with one of her dresses last time I was in Melbourne, and this time I fell in love with a few more!
e.g.etal – amazing and unique jewellery pieces, that you MUST check out.
The Bridal Salon – last but not least, the Bridal Salon, which Portobello Bride styled. Amaline’s gowns were showcased, as were Sarah Janks and the amazing Luisa Beccaria. (I am in love with Luisa, now. Divine!)

I’ve been at Bride to Be magazine for nearly ten months now and I’m so very proud of what my team do at the magazine. I’m also very proud to have been associated with Portobello Bride Boutique Wedding Market.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Sydney later in the year!

The Boutique Wedding Market Fashion Shows

Today, we are excited to share some photos from the weekend's Boutique Wedding Market Fashion Shows. The Bridal Salon was filled with gorgeous Brides-to-be who were treated to a stunning Parisian-style fashion show at various points throughout the event. As mentioned last week we were privileged to showcase the work of Designers Amaline Vitale, Anna Campbell, Luisa Beccaria, Sarah Janks, and Fleur Wood who debuted her new bridal line as part of the Boutique Wedding Market! Here are some pics:

The Portobello Bride Boutique Wedding Market - Melbourne

Wow! What an amazing weekend at St Kilda Town Hall last weekend! We hosted our very first Boutique Wedding Market and we were blown away by the amazing response we received from Brides, Grooms, those in the Wedding Industry and the Media! We had big dreams for the event, but it far and away surpassed even our biggest dreams!

Today we want to share with you some photos from the event so those of you who couldn't make it can see how spectacular it was for yourself.

The mood was set with beautiful harp music floating around the hall played by the lovely Anna Boulic.

Guests were treated to yummy bites created by Ed Dixon Food Design.

The Bridal Salon was beautifully decorated and housed a stunning Parisian-style fashion show of Australian and International Designer's gowns. More on the fashion shows to come!

Make-Up demonstrations were provided by Lady Day.

The guys had their own space in the Grooms' Lounge.

Guests enjoyed some fun times snapping photos in the Photobooth provided by In The Booth.

The darling Rebecca Paris from The Girl in the Green Scarf speaks with some market guests.

The White Tree provided some groovy tunes and are responsible for all these gorgeous photos!

We were privileged to have a number of outstanding and unique Photographers exhibit their work in our Photographic Gallery.

A big thanks to Mandala Wines - one of the Boutique Wedding Market's Sponsors!

Portobello Bride's Founder Kim [Center] with the Ed Dixon Food Design team.

More amazing photos from the event can be seen at this online gallery created by The White Tree.

Come back to the blog over the next few days for more follow up posts from the Boutique Wedding Market!
